Can you read the water?

Can you read the water??? There are no secrets on how to read the water. It is important to have the sun overhead in order to distinguish reef areas. Deep Water of 50 feet and over will be inky blue, but the color might be lighter if there is white sand on the bottom. A light green or turquoise would indicate a depth of 15 – 25 feet, but if the bottom has rocks or coral, these will change to brownish shade. 10 feet and under will show as a very pale shade of green or light brown if rocks and coral are present. Now, you’ll be able to proudly distinguish and estimate the depth on your next trip to the islands! (We took this picture at Anegada Island in January!)
